I'm not in the construction industry, do I really need a safety system?

Yes. All businesses, regardless of the industry, must abide by the Work Health and Safety Act 2012. The risk level of your business will determine the extent of the safety system required for your business.

WLSS is happy to discuss your business needs, so please don’t hesitate to contact us for a friendly chat to understand your obligations.

How often do I need to test and tag electrical appliances?

The frequency is determined by the application of the electrical appliance, the level of risk associated with the business and the industry in which the business operates.

For example:

  • A construction worker using a corded power drill must have it tested every three months
  • A laptop in an office building needs to be tested yearly
  • A server in a fixed server rack or server room only needs testing every five years

WLSS are able to provide testing and tagging services to meet the requirements of the Australian Standards, are licensed and can offer a reminder service so your appliances never go out of date.

I have a fire extinguisher in my car, does it need to be checked?

If you have a fire extinguisher in a company vehicle, it must be checked every six (6) months. (If over five years old, hydro-static testing or replacement is required.)

All testing staff must be currently certified in the minimum Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing. Check the certification of the staff you contract to ensure you meet compliancy.

It is extremely important to be aware of, and immediately remove, any food product that is recalled so your clients and the public aren’t put at risk.

Anyone who owns and/or operates a food business can subscribe to the Food Standards Australia New Zealand’s (FSANZ) subscription services that are available to keep you up-to-date with the latest developments. Click here to head to our Links page to access the FSANZ’s website.

Alternatively your state’s government can also be contacted for information relating to food recalls.

WLSS understand business owners and businesses need flexibility, so we have appointments available outside of business hours to fulfil your business’ needs.

WLSS understand the implications down time can have on a business. This is why WLSS take the pressure off and come to you.

We believe that the only way we, or any safety consultant, can truly assess the safety needs of your business, is to be onsite with you to see and fully understand your business’ functionality.
