Induction Training That Is a Real Handover

An induction that could be delivered at any business, to anyone, about anything, has not inducted anyone into your workplace. It’s handed over information, not a working understanding of your systems, your site and what’s expected once the session ends.

The question worth asking is what a new starter actually knows on day two that they didn’t know from a generic slide deck alone, and whether anyone has ever checked.

What Induction Training
With WLSS Covers

Location icon displaying a map with a location pin

Your Site, Walked

Where the assembly point is, which equipment has a history, where the hazards sit. The induction happens in the workplace, not in a room about it.

Documents icon displaying stacked papers with a gear

Your Systems and Procedures

Legislation, roles and responsibilities, company policies and industry requirements, using your own procedures as the content rather than a template with your logo added.

Emergency exit icon displaying a person running through a door on a green background

Emergency and Reporting, Specifically

Who a hazard is reported to in your business, what happens in an emergency on your site, and where to go. Named people and real places.

Approval icon displaying a checkmark inside a circle

Confirmed, Not Just Signed

The handover is checked against your site before the job is considered finished, so a signature on the sheet means something.

What a Generic Induction Quietly Fails to Transfer

A generic induction covers the topics every induction is supposed to cover: emergency procedures exist, hazards should be reported, PPE is required in some areas. All true, and none of it specific enough to tell a new starter where the nearest assembly point is, who they report a hazard to in your business, or which piece of equipment on your site has a history of causing problems.

A new starter who has sat through a generic session and one who has genuinely been shown your workplace can look identical on a sign-in sheet and be in completely different positions the first time something goes wrong.

Why Inductions Quietly Drift Over Time

Every new starter is, for a period, the person on your site least familiar with what could hurt them. An induction that transfers information without confirming it’s landed leaves that period longer than it needs to be, and the cost doesn’t show up in the induction paperwork. It shows up later, in an incident that traces back to something a proper handover would have covered.

The person who ends up running inductions in most businesses is whoever has been there longest and has a spare hour. Over time, what gets handed down drifts: a shortcut here, a step skipped there, each new starter shown a slightly different version of “how things are done” depending on who walked them around that week. Nobody notices, because every induction still produces a signed form.

How We Make Induction Training Work

  1. Tell us about your site and your systems

Your procedures, your emergency arrangements, your reporting lines and the parts of the site that need calling out. If you already run an induction, we start from what it covers and what it misses.

  2. We build the induction from your own material

Company and site-specific content drawn from your existing systems, not a template. Different roles, sites or visitor types get the version they need.

  3. Walk it through, on site

The induction is delivered in your workplace, walking the site, with the people and places named. New starters and re-inductions for existing staff alike.

  4. Confirm it landed, record it

We check the handover took, not just that a session took place, and you hold the record of who was inducted, on what and when.

Why WLSS for Induction Training

WLSS builds every induction from your existing systems rather than a template with your logo added, using your own site, your own equipment and your own procedures as the content, not a generic overview that happens to be delivered inside your building. This is what “implement, not dump and run” means in practice: we don’t hand you an induction module and leave. We build the handover, walk it through, and confirm it’s landed before considering the job finished.

It also means the induction stops depending on whichever staff member has time that week. Ask whoever currently runs your induction whether a new starter has ever been tested against your specific site, or only asked to sign that a session took place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on what an induction covers and how it is delivered.

Get in Touch

WHS legislation, roles and responsibilities, company policies, emergency procedures and the specific requirements of your industry, all built on your own site and systems rather than delivered as a general overview.

Always. Company inductions and site-specific inductions are built from your existing procedures, your site and your equipment, including the specific needs of schools and specialised operations.

Yes. Re-training existing team members is part of the service, whether because the site has changed, procedures have changed, or the original induction was generic and never checked.

No. An induction is the handover into your system; it doesn’t replace one. If your induction is currently standing in for a system, that’s a gap worth naming. We’ve written about it: why an induction is not a WHS system.

Fixed, upfront pricing, customised to the number of attendees and your specific requirements. No surprises.

Yes. WLSS provides ongoing support to help you implement safety practices and address questions as they come up, and we can provide further specialised training your team may need.
