From 1 January 2013, the introduction of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012, aligned South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory, the Northern Territory and the Commonwealth.
From April 2016, changes to health and safety laws in New Zealand also came into effect. The changes to the New Zealand Health and Safety Act and regulations are based on Australian Model Work Health and Safety laws.
The Acts requires a reasonably practical approach to health and safety in the workplace.
