Two workers have been taken to hospital after suffering electric shocks from the lightning during yesterday’s wild weather in Adelaide.
A Franklin Street construction site was shut down after lighting hit a crane. As the stormy weather crossed the city around noon, the crane worker was reportedly hanging onto chains when he got zapped. Current passed through the steel chain that was being used to help load the machine.
There was a total of three cranes struck by lightning across Adelaide during the storm. However the Franklin Street crane was the only one operating at the time of the strike.
Further south of the city, a man doing sewer works was injured. The worker suffered an electric shock when lightning hit a metal road plate next to him. Paramedics attended the scene and stabilised the worker, before being taken to nearby Flinders Medical Centre for further treatment.
It has been reported that Aaron Cartledge, CFMEU State Secretary, has said workers and builders need to be aware of regulations relating to lightning.
Weather Policies Aren’t Just for Hot Days
When people think of weather policies, hot weather policies often come to mind. Policies that may specify a particular temperature that work is stopped at.
However working in cold, windy or stormy conditions is just as important.
