The COVID-Safe Plan

Two months ago, businesses around the world came to a standstill as the COVID-19 pandemic swept through major cities. This has been a massive challenge for everyone, both businesses and individuals, if not the biggest challenge the world has come across in the modern-day.

We are still far from over this disease. So now we have to adapt our ways of living and working so we can get back on our feet again.

As the government begins to ease restrictions, little by little, we have already seen what can happen if these restrictions are either lifted too quickly or not followed with SA recording its first case in 19 days.

So how can you stay safe, re-start your business and protect your workers and customers?

If your business was previously directed to close, the South Australian Government requires you to complete a COVID-Safe Plan before reopening. This includes businesses that have been allowed to reopen during Step 1 of South Australia’s Roadmap to Recovery must have a plan completed by 1 June.

Some WHS measures businesses must have when reopening includes:

Having a focused WHS Management System in place that is unique to your business
Identify and understand risks in your business
Implement control measures to address your business’ risks
Adapt workplaces and work practices so they are consistent with advice from health authorities
Actively control against the transmission of COVID-19
Be prepared to respond immediately to a case of COVID-19 in your workplace
Make personal hygiene facilities available
Ensure the COVID-Safe Plan is communicated to workers

If you do not have a COVID-Safe Plan in place, you can be fined up to $5,000.
